The World X80 Club, 2018-2019

The World X80 Club and ‘X80 research’ is a reciprocity-based design-research project

collaborated with young design professionals and Studio Makkink & Bey. The project is investigating what position the designer takes after the bachelor & master education is finished, we are keen to investigate the existing structure, the need, relevance and potential of the young creatives with their design practices and establish a collective agency to reflect the position where young creatives stand and their position in now/future design practices. Giving them a stage and sings for them to connect and integrate into a collective future global interpretation.

World X80 Club as a global design-agency we proceed with our project in 2 phases. As a role of design anthropologist to investigate and map out the relations: in a new angle of seeing the young creatives’ journey. To reflect on the existing after-school structure and rethink possibilities of different interfaces where young creatives stand and their position in now/future design practices.

Before the signing of the Bologna declaration in 1999, now 20 years ago, there was a series of ministerial meetings and agreements between European countries to ensure comparability in the standards and quality of higher-education qualifications.

What happened with this new model of education is that the bachelor study can be followed up by a master, even in a different field. Due to this system, there are a lot more students worldwide studying all over the world. But what happens to these young creatives after their studies? You will step out of the cocoon of a closed and probably so-called “safe” environment in education system to the transition into reality. Perhaps you will start your own practice and full fill your dreams. Or you will search for another path within the design world or switch to another profession if needed. On 'yellow brick road' journey a lot of questions, needs and doubts will be raised, by then: Is there still an urge to continue your journey and position yourself on this invisible road?
